Aisha Glover has been named CEO for Newark Alliance, a nonprofit focused on Newark’s ongoing economic revitalization.

Glover comes to the Alliance after most recently serving as president and CEO for the Newark Community Economic Development Corp. She succeeds Kimberly McLain.

The appointment was announced Tuesday by the organization.

“Having had the honor of working directly with Ms. Glover, including her spearheading our bid for Amazon’s HQ2, I can’t think of a better person to lead the Newark Alliance into the future,” Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said in a prepared statement. “I congratulate the Board and look forward to strengthening our partnership.”

Lyneir Richardson, executive director of The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development at the Rutgers Business School, will serve as interim replacement for Glover at Newark CEDC while the organization looks to fill the position. Rutgers-Newark is a founding collaborator within the Newark Alliance.

Glover has an extensive history with strategic partnership development and community engagement that spans more than 15 years. Her work prior to joining Newark CEDC includes serving as Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp.’s vice president of external affairs. Before venturing into the nonprofit sector, Glover worked for eight years at Morgan Stanley.
