American Water donates $100K to Feeding America’s COVID-19 response efforts

Camden-based American Water and its foundation arm announced on Friday a $100,000 donation to Feeding America to aid food banks supporting those impacted by the novel coronavirus.

“With the COVID-19 virus impacting our country nationwide, American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation are proud to help support Feeding America’s food banks during this unprecedented time in our country,” Walter Lynch, chief operating officer, American Water, said. “We understand how critical life’s necessities, like clean, safe water, are in our daily lives and in times of emergencies, and we hope this contribution can provide much needed assistance in communities throughout the country to help feed people affected by this virus.”

For every dollar donated by American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation, Feeding America helps secure and distribute 12 pounds of food — or the equivalent of 10 meals.

“We are grateful for the support of American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation,” Dan Nisbet, vice president of development, Feeding America, said. “The Feeding America network of 200 food banks and 60,000 partner agencies is working tirelessly to aid and provide meal assistance to our most vulnerable neighbors — children, the elderly, families struggling with food insecurity and individuals facing job disruptions – throughout our nation during this unprecedented time. Thank you for your support and confidence in our work.”

Feeding America is a hunger-relief organization providing food and services to more than 46 million people each year.
