128 from N.J. land on Inc. 5000 fastest-growing companies list

Inc.‘s annual ranking of the top American companies is back, and 128 from New Jersey made a place for themselves on it.

The New York City-based business magazine released Wednesday the annual Inc. 5000, a ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private businesses in the nation.

Of the 128 New Jersey businesses that ranked, five made it into the Top 200. When compared to last year, Garden State companies on the list declined by 18 from 146.

Each company was ranked by their percentage revenue growth over three years (2015 to 2018), Inc. said.

The five from New Jersey that cracked the Top 200 span industries including consumer products and services, software, computer hardware, and food and beverage.

“The companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have followed so many different paths to success,” James Ledbetter, Inc. editor in chief, said in a news release. “There’s no single course you can follow or investment you can take that will guarantee this kind of spectacular growth. But what they have in common is persistence and seizing opportunities.”

The top-ranked company from the state was Hoboken-based mattress business Bear Mattress. The company came in at No. 7 overall due to its three-year growth rate of 13,481%. It had revenues of $20.5 million.

The second-best performing company was Plainsboro-based Core Software Technology, which provides innovative IoT, AWS and messenger solutions for businesses. The company ranked No. 74 overall, down from its 2018 ranking at No. 63. It had a three-year growth rate of 4,247% and revenue of $4.6 million.

OwnBackup came in third-best, ranking No. 103 overall. The Fort Lee-based provider of secure and automated cloud-to-loud backup and restore services had a three-year growth rate of 3,245% and revenue of $9 million.

The fourth New Jersey company in the Top 200 was Solvix Solutions, a Marlton-based marketer of computer hardware, software and peripherals directly to businesses. The company had a 2,624% three-year growth rate, which put it at No. 139 overall. Its revenue came in at $20.4 million.

The fifth and final Garden Stater to make the list was Universal Yums, ranked No. 190 overall. This Parsippany-based company provides subscription boxes of snacks and candies from a different country every month. It had a three-year growth of 2,096% and revenues of $12.7 million.
