Eos introduces Ingenuity Lab at Edison headquarters

“This is a company that was born here in Middlesex County,” Chief Executive Officer Joe Mastrangelo said as he unveiled the new Eos Ingenuity Lab at the firm’s Edison headquarters Monday.

“As we’ve evolved as a company, our needs have evolved,” he added.

Eos, which was founded in 2008, designs and manufactures state-of-the-art zinc batteries intended to provide new energy storage options in the rapidly growing clean energy space. The new site focuses on expanding the company’s R&D capacity as it designs future generations of its Znyth aqueous battery.

“The launch of the Ingenuity Lab underscores our commitment to building the energy storage solutions of the future,” said Mastrangelo. “We have always prioritized innovation and continuous improvement as part of our company identity, but to have a designated site where this can be fostered will help accelerate adoption of energy storage and its critical role in the renewable energy transition.”

Mastrangelo was joined at the unveiling by U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, D-6th District, as well as Assemblyman Ron Karabinchak, D-18th District, Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ron Rios, local officials, executives and representatives from Rutgers University and Middlesex Community College.

“New Jersey is confronting the climate crisis with new, cutting-edge battery technology that is creating clean energy jobs right here at home,” said Pallone. “I am immensely proud that Eos calls Edison home and is leading the way on energy storage technology that will help us accelerate the transition to clean energy. These innovations will ensure both our economy and our energy infrastructure are ready to meet the challenges of the future.”

Eos has pledged to add as many as 25 jobs to support the new lab, which will work to refine and optimize Eos’ current technology while creating prototypes for future designs that can be tested under a variety of conditions.

Rios noted Middlesex County’s efforts to foster an environment that supports innovators – such as Eos – by prioritizing research, development and innovation.

“On behalf of myself and my colleagues on the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners, I congratulate Eos for this new expansion of their facility,” said Rios. “I’m excited to see what the future holds with innovative businesses like Eos leading the way.”

“Ron talked about Middlesex County being the innovation county,” said Pallone. “And so, this lab is the perfect example of the kind of innovation that Ron is talking about.”

Eos is also planning to work with Rutgers and Middlesex Community College to continue its  technological innovation.

Mastrangelo noted the significance of establishing this facility in Edison, where General Electric was started, as Eos plays its part in the clean energy evolution. “And now to have Eos doing this in the footprints of that legacy is extremely important to us,” he said.

“This lab here, which is going to create some more jobs, is going to hopefully develop the way to manufacture these batteries and also the equipment,” said Pallone.

“We look forward to a great future here and continuing to grow our capabilities and workforce,” said Mastrangelo.
